A Black day

Given that Rebecca Black’s internet smash hit ‘Friday’ has had a whopping 50million views on YouTube, we’re going to assume that a large number of you have heard it. It’s um, catchy, right? Yes, catchy.

Anyway lots of people have been slamming Miss Black, who is only 13 years old, saying that her tune is the worst song ever made, an abomination, yada yada yada. However it appears that she’s going to have the last laugh: the song has hit the top 20 of the US iTunes charts and the top 40 of the UK equivalent, and looks set to bag her $1million. Yes, really. She's even set to release a new tune, called LOL: that’ll show all of those people who slated her.

‘It was really upsetting,' she said to The Sun. 'These people don't know me and it really hurt at first. I cried a little bit, I'm only 13. I thought, 'Should I not have done this? What have I done wrong?' People were saying, 'You're the worst singer, this is the worst song'. They criticised my voice and the lyrics.

‘But I call them negative Nancies. They can try to rain on my parade but as far as I'm concerned they are raining on their own parade. Just face it - it is a catchy song. It gets stuck in my head.’
