Adele back for Brits

Adele will make her return to live performance at this year’s Brit Awards. The news was announced at the launch of the Awards at the Savoy Hotel. The Brits will take place on February 21 at the O2 Arena in London.

It’s good news for the singer and her fans. Astounding record sales in 2011 were counter-balanced somewhat by Adele’s medical problems. She had to undergo vocal chord microsurgery in the USA to prevent recurrent bleeding from a benign polyp.

The operation forced the cancellation of 10 scheduled dates in North America and six shows in the UK. Her return to live performance comes sooner than expected. Adele is nominated in three categories at the 2012 Brits: Best Female Solo Artist, Best Single and Best Album.

There are strong rumours that Adele might be singing live even before the Brits night. The Grammy Awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on 12 February. Adele’s US record company will hope to maintain the artist’s momentum in the US with a high-profile live performance. Her album 21 has nominations in six categories at the Grammies.

The album, which has already sold 17 million copies worldwide, continues to sell in substantial quantities, returning to the top of the UK charts at the start of 2012, its 19th week in the number 1 spot. Adele was not at the Brits launch, instead choosing to spend the evening at actor Sid Owen’s birthday party.

Other acts confirmed to play live at the Brits include Noel Gallagher, Rihanna and Coldplay.
