Adele doesn't want to be a celebrity

Singer and sales phenomenon Adele has said that she does not want to be a celebrity. Despite being the most successful female singer on the planet at present, she fights shy of being instantly recognisable.

Apparently believing that the best way to avoid celebrity status is to go on US TV and tell everybody, the singer told NBC, "I don't want to be a celebrity. I don't want to be in people's faces.

"I've managed to stay out of the public eye," she claimed. "The other day I walked through Trafalgar Square on a Sunday afternoon, a tourist haven. I was a bit worried. I was in my pyjamas as well because I had been working the day before. Nobody recognised me. A couple of people looked round, but like 'What would she be doing walking through Trafalgar Square in pyjamas?'"

Perhaps the pressures of fame might be getting to her. After all "working the day before" does not mean you are entitled to walk around the city in your nightwear. At least, not unless you are a celebrity.

She was asked how she would like to be remembered in 10 years time, the interviewer making the rather cheeky assumption that Adele’s career at the top would be as brief as it has been bright.

"I just want to make music," she said. "I mean, I still hope I have a little bit of clout in 10 years. But all I've ever wanted to do was sing." Just not right away. She said it will be at least two years before her next album appears.
