Arctic Monkeys play London gig

If you were in London last night (Aug 26), there was only one place every music fan wanted to be. 3000 gig goers who were lucky enough to win tickets through Arctic Monkeys’ website were treated to the Sheffield tyke’s Reading/Leeds festivals warm-up show at the O2 Academy Brixton.

The set which drew heavily from recent 3rd album ‘Humbug’, was peppered with old classics such as ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor’, ‘Brainstorm’, 'Fluorescent Adolescent' and The View From Afternoon’.

Although thunderous tracks; ‘Mardy Bum’, When The Sun Goes Down’, ‘A Certain Romance’ or ‘From The Ritz To The Rubble’ didn’t make it into the tubthumping set-list in was a barn storming performance from an untouchable band.

Frontman Alex Turner, 23 was reasonably quiet throughout the evening making the odd sarky quip like “Have we got time for one more?” after playing their 3rd song ‘Crying Lightning’.

To set up what was already going to be a great night's proceedings they were were supported by super group ‘Them Crooked Vultures’, featuring Foo Fighter Dave Grohl (drums and backing vocals), Queens Of The Stoneage Josh Homme (guitar and lead vocals) and Led Zep’s John Paul Jones (bass and keyboards). Making their debut live UK appearance the monsters of rock whipped through an unknown set after only playing a couple of very low-key gigs in Chicago and Holland earlier this month.

Arctic Monkeys played:

'My Propeller'
'Red Right Hand'
'Crying Lightning'
'Brianstorm'
'Still Take You Home'
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'Potion Approaching'
'Pretty Visitors'
'This House Is A Circus'
'If You Were There, Beware'
'Dangerous Animals'
