Beat on the Brat

The PA of former Ramones manager Linda Stein was found guilty of her murder at a court in New York today, say the BBC. Twenty-eight year old Natavia Lowery is said to have stolen $30,000 from Stein before killing her with a piece of exercise equipment in an attempt to try and hide the robbery.

Stein’s body was found at her apartment in Manhattan on 30 October 2007 having been killed by blows to the head and neck. Lowery’s lawyers deny that she was involved in her killing, although they admitted the theft. They claimed that Police forced their client into a false confession after 12 hours of questioning, but the jury disagreed, taking less than a day to reach the guilty verdict.

Lowery had also claimed that the murder was carried out by a masked stranger who told her not to report it, before giving the videotaped confession that claimed she bludgeoned Stein to death after she complained about her work and blew cannabis in her face. However there was no cannabis in her body when she died, and surveillance footage showed Lowery leaving the apartment just after the murder.

Stein managed The Ramones during their heyday in the late 70s before parting company in 1980. She went on to represent Madonna, Sting, Steven Spielberg and Angelina Jolie.
