Best of British

Tinie Tempah and Plan B got their deserved rewards at the Brits Awards last night, after a year in which they breathed new life into British pop. The pair won three of the most important awards between them, showing that there is a way forward for British music that doesn’t involve floppy haired students harking back to the 60s.

South London rapper Tinie bagged the British Single (for ‘Pass Out’) and British Breakthrough Act, while east London’s soul sensation Plan B picked up the gong for British Male Solo Artist. Incredibly he didn’t win the best album award, which went to noodley folk outfit Mumford & Sons and their debut album ‘Sigh No More’. Elsewhere Arcade Fire dominated the International section, picking up International Group and Album (for ‘The Suburbs’), and Rihanna justly picked up International Female Solo Artist. She also shook her booty while wearing very little – a pleasant bonus.
