Beyonce confirmed for Superbowl

Beyonce has confirmed the rumours that she will be the half-time star at the 2013 Superbowl. She posted a picture on her website with the Superbowl dates marked on her cheeks and the caption "Countdown To Touchdown".

Her appearance continues a trend for Superbowl acts to move away from classic rock into the pop mainstream. Madonna was the interval act for the 2012 football final, causing some controversy when British rapper MIA raised her middle finger to a massive family TV audience during Madonna’s performance. It was the biggest Superbowl scandal since Janet Jackson inadvertently flashed a nipple.

Beyonce seems a safer choice, although that might depend on who she chooses to join her in the stadium in New Orleans in February 3. Husband Jay-Z seems certain to appear, and it’s likely that Beyonce may also invite members of her old group Destiny’s Child.

In recent years the half-time show has almost overshadowed the actual football, with artists like Prince, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen all appearing.

Beyonce is busy working on her fifth album, holed up in the studio with Kanye West. According to a source quoted in the Sun, the singer is very meticulous about ensuring nobody gets a sneak preview of her new music. "She’s spent thousands hiring out the whole studios," the source said. "She’s got security on the doors to ensure no one hears a whisper. She’s being strict with proceedings too, putting in 14-hour days declaring nobody leaves until it’s perfect."
