It was billed as this decades Live Aid, a ‘supergig’ to help raise aid for those affected by the recent Japanese earthquake, but it’s been announced that Concert For Japan will no longer happen.

The supergig was due to take place at Wembley Arena later this month and was to be screened live on the BBC in the UK and NBC in the US but because no one wanted to play it, Live Nation have pulled the plug. Talking about the decision, a spokesperson from the concert promoter said; ‘Unfortunately, with now only 13 days to go to the proposed Concert For Japan, sadly we are in a position where we have been unable to secure the artists required to produce the worldwide TV broadcast that we had hoped for and have therefore very reluctantly decided to proceed no further.’

In related news, an unofficial Japanese benefit gig took place in London last night (3 April) with Beady Eye, Primal Scream and Richard Ashcroft.
