Eurovision contest 2014: UK singers rumours

  • Facebook

As the virtually unknown Nikolaj Koppel, Pilou Asbæk and Lise Rønne were confirmed yesterday as Eurovision contest 2014 presenters, we still have no idea on who will represent the UK at this year's edition of the eurowacky kermesse, which will be held at the B&W Arena in Copenhagen (Denmark) on May 6, 8 and 10.

Rumour has it that former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has been considered for the contest by the BBC but there's nothing official yet. The suggestion has immediately sparked criticism as many think that the Australia Got Talent judge just doesn't have what it takes to raise our country's profile on Eurovision and that her performance would just add to the long list of embarrassing acts that have made the UK slide to the bottom of the competition for the past 16 years.

Amongst the artists that have apparently also been considered for Eurovision 2014 we find the evergreen but slightly geriatric Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, followed by the Nolan Sisters, a one-hit-wonder Irish group who rose to popularity in the 80s with the single 'I'm in the Mood for Dancing', and Kiki Dee, who had her 15 minutes of international fame in 1976 with the catchy Elton John duet 'Don’t Go Breaking My Heart'.

Simon Cowell has commented via Twitter on the tragic lineup of potential contestants by saying that he could help in finding the right artist to represent the UK, "if they would let me". And maybe that's just what this country needs.
