F***ed Up: ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’

It’s that time of year again where it’s nigh on impossible to escape a Christmas song; put the telly or the radio on, walk into a shop, or simply stand in a lift, and that oh so familiar sound comes tinkling out. One of the definitive Christmas songs of all time has to be the multi-collaboration ‘Do They Know Its Christmas Time?’ from Band Aid. Since its first release in 1984 it’s gone through various updates; it was reworked in the thankfully forgotten about Band Aid II in 1989, and most recently with the surprisingly rousing Nigel Godrich hemled Band Aid 20 in 2004.

25 years since the original first hit cassette players, Canadian indie rockers Fucked Up have attempted their very own unofficial reworking of the song. They have roped in a whole heap of musical buddies to help out: Vampire Weekend, Wu Tang Clan, Yo La Tengo, Bob Mould, Andrew EK, TV On The Radio as well as Arrested Development comic David Cross.

Like its predecssors, it’s also all in the name of charidee (Justice For Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women, the DTES Power Of Women Group and Sisters In Spirit is available to download now.)

If you’re sick of Christmas songs then this is definitely your alternative. Check it out.
