Flying off the shelves

Take That’s miraculous comeback success continues apace: not content with having all five members back on stage, performing together, for the first time since the mid-1990s, having humungous, money-spinning sell-out tours and generally being hailed as the kings of pop once more, their new album is also flying off the shelves.

Progress, which we have to say comes with a pretty cool cover, if nothing else, has become the fastest selling album of the century so far, with over 235,000 copies being bought in only one day. The number is also the biggest for day one sales since Oasis’ third album Be Here Now managed to shift 350,000, carried along on a wave of hype and very little else.

‘This is a phenomenal achievement from an already phenomenally successful band,’ Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said. It’s a shame that this record suffers from the same problem as Be Here Now – it’s complete bobbins.
