Hirst puts his spin on a Carparelli

Leading British artist Damien Hirst is expected to raise between £50,000 and £70,000 for the charity War Child when a guitar he has painted is auctioned later this month, according to Digital Arts Online.

The Brit Art pioneer is the first in a series of ten well known artists to paint a guitar donated by Canadian guitar-maker Carparelli, all of which are to be auctioned for charity. The Turner Prize winning artist used his famous ‘spin painting’ technique to decorate a Carparelli Scarborough Nine. Splattering paint with a spinning wheel may not be the most sophisticated artistic method, but since Hirst is one of the world’s most famous living artists the guitar is certain to go for thousands when it is auctioned at Christie’s London Showroom on 17th February.

The one time leading bad boy of the Young British Artists has been an active supporter of the War Child charity, which protects children living in areas affected by conflict, since 1995.
