Hot charity cakes

The Helping Haiti charity single has proven a predictably big seller, shifting 150,000 units in only two days. It’s almost as if it’s a cover of REM’s Everybody Hurts, an extremely popular song proven to tug at the heartstrings (complete with heartbreaking and inspiring images from Haiti itself) and packed full of stars like Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle.

The song is currently outselling its nearest rival by four to one, and experts predict that sales will top one million, as well as becoming the best selling song of the last ten years. In the present it will almost certainly depose tinkly tonkly Savage Garden knock offs Owl City from their current perch at the top of the UK singles chart.

‘For it to sell over 100,000 copies in a day or two underlines once again the generosity of the UK and Irish public when called upon to help others,’ said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo. The single currently costs £.99 in the shops or 99p as a download, and if you buy the single have the proceeds will go to The Sun’s Helping Haiti Fund and the other half will go to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee). Buy it or go to hell for eternity.
