'I don't feel like a superstar'

Lady GaGa has said that she doesn’t feel like she’s an international superstar, which must be one of the most ridiculous things that we’ve ever heard come from her mouth. If you’re not a superstar, Ms GaGa, then who is, exactly?

The international pop superstar was talking to British fan Marissa Mayer in a special interview hosted by Google, which is really rather long and below, should you wish to watch it. The fact that she’s willing to do stuff like this marks her out as being one of the most interesting pop cultural figures of the last decade, if you ask us: since when were pop stars so open with their fans?

‘I still don't feel like one (a superstar),’ she said. ‘I know that sounds very silly, but even this morning I was getting ready to tweet that I was coming here today, and I got like, 50 freakin' e-mails (saying), 'Don't tweet it! They don't want anyone to know!'

‘I guess they were worried for security, but I said, 'You know, I need to market my record! People need to know where I'm gonna be!’

‘I just really am genuinely a musician to my core, and a lot of people don't know that about me. I write every lyric, every melody, I'm in there with the producers, whipping them to make the new future of music.

‘That is why I'm here. I'm not here to be a superstar. So yes, and no. There was never a day when I woke up and said, 'I'm a superstar', I'm still waiting for that to happen.’
