Iggy Pop insurance advert banned

An insurance advert featuring rock legend Iggy Pop has been banned after the advertising authorities decided that it was misleading.

The ad for insurance company Swiftcover has Iggy Pop declaring: "I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance!" But in fact Swiftcover doesn’t provide car insurance to musicians or entertainers leading to the advert being branded as deceptive.

A statement from the ASA highlighted these points: "Because the policy was promoted by a well-known musician, which might lead some viewers to believe the policy covered those who worked in entertainment, when it did not, and because Iggy Pop did not have a policy with Swiftcover, we concluded the ad was misleading."
