This might seem like more of a tech story, but frankly given the revolutionary impact that the iPod has had on the way that we listen to music, we can plonk this story here too: Steve Jobs has decided to resign from his position of Apple CEO, bringing to an end 35 years of pretty amazing stewardship.
Since the launch of the iPod all those years ago Apple has become the undisputed leader in mobile music consumption, crushing all opposition in a tide of functionality and cutting edge design, and that's down largely to Jobs, who has become as big a technology figure as Bill Gates. It appears that his recent ill health has meant that he has had to step down from his role as top man. His legacy will always be felt, however.
'I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know,' said Jobs. 'Unfortunately, that day has come. I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.'
