Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell dies
Mitch Mitchell, the legendary drummer of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has died at the age of 61. The ground breaking sticks man was found dead yesterday in hotel room in Portland Oregon.
Mitchell, along with bassist Noel Redding, formed the powerhouse rhythm section that played with Jimi Hendrix from 1966-1970. With a background in jazz, Mitchell pioneered a new “fusion” style of percussion which forms the backbone of Hendrix classics such as Manic Depression and Crosstown Traffic.
AP reports that Mitchell died from natural causes. He was on tour with a Jimi Hendrix tribute band.
