Justin Timberlake back riding high pitched in the charts

Justin who?? Bieber? No? Timber something or other? Hang on – I thought that was a type of rugged looking urban footwear that’s far too beige to go hiking in.

Pop star Justin Timberlake is back with a castrato vengeance – if one can possibly describe slightly smarmy Rn B crooning as ‘vengeance’. It is his first new song in five years and has been acclaimed by fans and critics alike proving that it does indeed take all sorts to make up this world.

The singer released "Suit & Tie" featuring Jay-Z on Sunday night, and within hours, the song had topped the U.S. iTunes chart. The new single also came with the announcement of a new album, "The 20/20 Experience," to be released later this year.

Timberlake who seems to fancy himself as a player and likes to hang with bad boys and give it the hip hop large has drafted in Jay Z to give his song some sort of credibility. Whether he is looking for credibility in the black RnB market or just trying to look a little less namby pamby is an open question.

Critics drew on Timberlake’s marriage to Jessica Biel last October as a possible inspiration for the track.

Rolling Stone’s Jody Rosen described the single "a gift to the world's wedding DJs ... an ode to dressing to the nines and going dancing." Having read the lyrics – one wonders if ‘ode’ isn’t pushing it a bit. "I be on my suit and tie sh-t,” is the refrain while the verses are peppered with such gems from Hallmark’s reject pile as “I can't wait till I get you on the floor, good-looking - Going out so hot, just like an oven” The romantic poets are rumoured to be spinning violently in their graves.

The singer's last album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds" in 2006, produced six hit singles including "SexyBack," which brought the singer four Grammy awards.
