Killers album signals a new direction

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers promises a new direction on the band’s new album. Battle Born is scheduled for release on September 17, possibly followed by a full UK tour.

"We've never hidden our influences, and we've always been loud and proud," Flowers said in an interview with Billboard. "This album is going down a few different roads, and you really get a taste of what we like as a band and what we think our strengths are."

The Killers have released the single Runaways as a taster for the album. "I had a good feeling about the song, Flowers said. "When I heard that march that catapults the song forward, I knew there was something special about it. It definitely has a couple of brothers on the record. It's a great starting point, but there are more styles as well."

The album involves recording with several different producers. Brendan O’Brien, the Peal Jam producer who recently worked on The Gaslight Anthem’s new album, was involved, as was British producer Steve Lillywhite. Some tracks also had input from Madonna producer Stuart White.

The album is the band's fourth, but the first since their 2008 release Day & Age. The title comes from the state flag of Nevada. "Whenever I needed help, lyrically, I thought of that phrase and it helped me," Flowers explained. "There's some triumphant moments."

The Killers play a one-off UK headlining date at Leeds O2 Academy on August 17, followed by appearances at the V Festival on August 18 and 19.
