Lady Gaga posts new pic to promote ARTPOP

Lady Gaga settles for nothing as prosaic as just releasing a new single and a new album. The imminent release of ARTPOP is nothing short of a major artistic event and as such must be heralded by Gaga posting a (fairly coy) nude pic on Twitter. Her timing was a bit off as the single, believed to be a track called 'Applause' , isn't released until August 19.

The photo was accompanied by some other snaps of lyrics and a notebook in which she is working out the high-concept production of ARTPOP. The album will be released as part of a multimedia app in November. Gaga released a statement saying that "the app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive world-wide community". Er, is it available on a CD then, or what?

Wait there's more: "The album ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga's creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a "rage" of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, ARTPOP could mean anything. But for her, this is a celebration of obsession."

If that sounds like the sort of confused nonsense you hear on a ludicrous perfume ad delivered in a breathy French accent, well Lady Gaga didn't get where she is today without embracing her pretentiousness.

The tour could also be something special too. Gaga, sporting a new nose piercing and a ripped leather-look dress, was spotted in New York taking in some inspiration at an art show by Marina Abramovic. It featured naked models lounging around in straw and hugging trees. Gaga has worked with Abramovic and other artists on ARTPOP and on the staging of the next tour which will begin after the album release.
