Lady Gaga rides around in a gold-plated chariot

Lady Gaga’s diva complex continues to spiral out of control. Immobilised after hip surgery, the singer has demanded a gold-plated chariot wheelchair befitting her status as the queen of vaguely-Madonna-like pop.

Rather than get around in the same sort of wheelchair that mere plebs have to use, Gaga saw post-op recovery as the chance to indulge her fondness for bad-taste bling. She commissioned Ken Borochov, of luxury brand Mordekai, to create a Gaga-mobile with 24-carat gold fittings, a black leather seat, a removable leather canopy and a reclining function so the singer can have a snooze when her courtiers start to bore her. "I was thrilled to create what I dubbed The Chariot — a chair fit for a queen," Borochov said, no doubt laughing all the way to the bank with the cheque.

It amounted to a snub for Gaga’s previous wheelchair, which Gaga had introduced to fans as "Emma". Gaga’s hip problems, stemming from a condition called synovitis, plagued her for months before she opted for surgery, which meant cancelling a world tour. She explained the reasons for calling off the tour dates. "I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, and over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal."

The break may allow the singer to plan a wedding to boyfriend Taylor Kinney. Loose-tongued friend Lady Starlight seems to think that the nuptials are a certainty. "She’s told me he’s the one and you know that instantly when you see them together," she told The Sun. "They were made for each other. At first I thought he was too hot to be cool but now I think he’s totally awesome. From all I’ve heard, I don’t think I’m dropping a secret by saying they are ready to get hitched this year."
