Lady Gaga UK dates announced

Lady Gaga has announced details of 2 UK shows in September, when she will bring her live extravaganza to UK stadiums as part of her 2012 world tour

The shows will be at London's Twickenham rugby stadium on September 8 and at Manchester Arena on September 11. The songs will be drawn from her entire career, with an emphasis on the Born This Way album, but also including tracks from The Fame and The Fame Monster.

The show will be a multimedia experience, with a spectacle to match the music. Never short of a pretentious soundbite to promote her work, Lady Gaga promised that "The Haus of Gaga and I have worked for months conceiving a spectacular stage. The Born This Way Ball is an electro-metal pop-opera, the tale of the beginning, the genesis of the kingdom of fame. How we were birthed and how we will die celebrating."

So, more than just a few songs and several costume changes then? Still, that’s what the fans expect from their diva. The combination of artistic aspiration and vulgar mainstream appeal helped Born This Way (perhaps now to be known as "Birthed This Way"?) sell 6 million copies worldwide.

Lady Gaga is also the foremost pop artist to make social media work to her advantage. Her 20 million Twitter followers have given her a fanbase that will ensure both shows are sellouts.

A suitably overblown, camp and preposterous support act has been chosen for the European leg of the tour. The Darkness reformed in 2011 after a 5-year hiatus in which they addressed the problems of drugs, alcohol and not being taken seriously.
