Les Paul dies aged 94

Les Paul, the legendary guitarist and inventor, has died at the age of 94. The guitar pioneer died from pneumonia in a hospital in New York.

Paul combined a chart-topping music career with his ground breaking work in the design of electric guitars and multi-track recording equipment.

Gibson Guitars started producing the now iconic Les Paul solid body guitar back in 1952 and the instrument has gone on to be used by generations of legendary axemen from Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend to Slash.

Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar, played tribute to Les Paul: "The world has lost a truly innovative and exceptional human being today. I cannot imagine life without Les Paul."

"He would walk into a room and put a smile on anyone's face. His musical charm was extraordinary and his techniques unmatched anywhere in the world."
