Lewis Hamilton tunes up

Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has made a secret album of R&B songs. The Sun revealed that the former world champion has a hankering to be a music star and has been recording his own material.

A source close to the driver told the paper that Hamilton has been making music in his spare time. "He's really into his R&B and has been cutting lots of songs that fit in with his taste. At the moment he's fully focused on F1 so it's unlikely that any of the tracks will be made public. But he's had good feedback from the few people who have heard them."

There will be speculation that Hamilton's musical inclinations might have been influenced by his on-off relationship with the Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. They have been seeing each other since 2007 and, according to which reports you believe, they have either become engaged or split up.

Hamilton joins a long - OK not that long - list of sports stars making the crossover into music. If we overlook Gazza’s frenzied murder of Fog On The Tyne, it includes Carl Lewis, Kobe Bryant, Manny Pacquiao and Shaquille O’Neal. Germans will rush to remind us that Kevin Keegan enjoyed a smash hit in their country with Head Over Heels, in that brief 80s window when his hairstyle was in fashion.

Few of them persuaded us that their musical talents were anything remotely like their sporting ability. Hamilton has no plans to release his recordings for public consumption, which suggests he has belatedly developed a sense of his own limitations.
