Lostprophets members speak out about frontman's arrest

The other members of Lostprophets have broken their silence over the extraordinarily serious and deeply disturbing allegations surrounding their lead singer Ian Watkins. The band have spoken out about their shock at his arrest on sex abuse charges.

The 35-year-old singer appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court yesterday, accused of conspiring with a woman to rape a one-year-old girl and was remanded in custody to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on the 31 December

As the shock and revulsion surrounding the horrific charges continued to be felt, the band felt that they had to address the issue outright and engage with a mortified and betrayed fan base. They released this statement.

"Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you," it read.

"It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers."

"Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu."

Watkins – a former boyfriend of Radio 1’s Fearne Cotton is accused of two counts of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children, possessing, making and distributing indecent images, and possessing "extreme" animal pornography. The conspiracy charges cover a period between May 1 and December 17, and the indecent images a period between August 12 and December 17.

Watkins is charged along with two women, aged 24 and 20, who cannot be named. The Lostprophets have sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide and the unspeakable allegations have come as a hammer blow to friends and fans.

Watkins was arrested on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into child sex offences. In a bizarre twist – H from Steps – also named Ian Watkins received a torrent of abuse on Twitter as he was mistaken for the Ian Watkins at the center of the scandal. With such a dizzying number of child abuse allegations surfacing across the entertainment industry – one wonders where it will all end?
