Mars beams in at number one

It’s the beginning of the week, so it must be time to check out the domestic charts. The hot news in the singles charts is that drab old Bruno Mars has shot in at number with ‘Grenade’, which is remarkably the fastest selling January single for 15 years. The single sold closed to 150,000 in its first week, some way short of the monstrous 383,000 Babylon Zoo sold with Spaceman back in 1996.

Rihanna may have been knocked from top spot in the singles chart, but she’s still holding it down when it comes to albums, once again beatig of soul sensation Plan B to top spot. Meanwhile, Mumford & Sons are still selling truckloads of ‘Sigh No More’, while Take That will simply not be shifted from the Top Ten – those are some tough old dudes.
