Meat Is Murder

When you’re one half of one of the greatest song writing partnership of all time, you might think that your back catalogue of excellent tunes would be the proudest thing you achieved in your career. Well you’d be wrong. The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has revealed that top of his proudest moments list is inspiring people to go vegetarian.

In 1985 The Smiths released their classic album, ‘Meat Is Murder’ which played heavily on the ethics of not killing animals for food. Talking about the album in a new book by Neil Taylor called Document and Eyewitness: An Intimate History of Rough Trade, Johnny Marr said: ‘I am very proud of the fact that 20 years [sic] on people tell me they became a vegetarian as a result of 'Meat is Murder', I think that is quite literally rock music changing someone's life - it's certainly changing the life of animals. It is one of the things I am most proud of.’

Morrissey is famously also a meat-free eating human.
