Megadeth man voices bizarre political views

Remember when your parents told you that listening to heavy metal all day would damage your brain? After Ozzy Osbourne’s TV show supported that theory, further evidence emerges from the latest pronouncements of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.

The former Metallica guitarist with the loveliest hair in hard rock has outed himself as a "birther", one of those die-hard refuseniks who ignore all the evidence and insist that President Barack Obama was not born in the USA.

Talking on a Canadian chat show that obviously has a problem attracting proper guests, Mustaine said "I have a lot of questions about Obama, but certainly not where he was born. I know he was born somewhere else than America."

When the host expressed mild interest in this point of view, Mustaine expanded his theory, although he stopped short of producing any compelling evidence. "How come he was invisible until he became, uh, whatever he was in Illinois?" Mustaine asked. "They don't have any record of him."

Mustaine has past form in delivering eccentric opinions. Last year Mustaine claimed to have prolonged the life of a fan with cancer. "I met a fan in Kentucky who had throat cancer," he told Spin. "He was only supposed to live a few weeks. For some reason, I reached out, grabbed his throat, and started praying for the dude."

The dude lived long enough to present Mustaine with a certificate on the next Megadeth tour. "It's signed by the governor and says I'm an honorary Kentucky Colonel. As far as I know, it's the real deal."
