Michael Buble to play Sheffield charity show

We are sure all those stories about Yorkshire folk being careful with their cash are just a pernicious regional stereotype, but if there is a grain of truth there, they might welcome news of a bargain Michael Buble show in Sheffield. Tickets for his charity concert at the Motorpoint Arena on June 28 cost just £25. Normally tickets for a Buble show would be twice that.

Buble might be Canada's second most annoying pop singer, but he does do a tremendous amount of work for charity. In the past Buble has crooned his bland swing and show tunes in aid of children, disaster relief, homelessness, human rights, poverty, anything you've got basically. The Sheffield show will raise cash for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and local radio stations' charity Cash For Kids.

It's also an opportunity for Buble to hone his stage show ahead of major London dates at the O2 Arena. He has been rehearsing in Sheffield and wanted to invite local fans to see the show. "There’s a lot of really kind, down to earth people in South Yorkshire," he told Hallam FM. "Every time I’ve done shows here it’s great because people are fun and don’t take themselves too seriously - hopefully I’m a lot like them."

Buble's decision to "do the show right here" has raised a few issues for the venue. Motorpoint Arena manager Rob O'Shea has to prepare for 12,000 fans, albeit of the mature, sedate Michael Buble variety. "This will be the first time in the building's 22 year history that we have ever announced, put on sale and hosted a show within such a short space of time," O'Shea said. "The quick turnaround time will bring with it some challenges but when Michael Buble says he wants to put a show on in your venue you do everything you can to make it possible."

Tickets are available from the Box Office on 0114 256 5656 or the Motorpoint Arena website.
