Michael Jackson fans are in for a treat this May with the news that a new album will be released featuring 8 previously unheard songs. The record will be titled Xscape after a track that failed to make the final cut for the Invincible album.

Epic Records Chief LA Reid was granted access to Jackson's archives and found a rich vault of over 200 vocal recordings thought to have been recorded over a timespan of 35 years. The album takes "completed vocals" from Jackson and Timbaland acted as lead producer on the record. There was also input form experienced music makers Rodney Jerkins, Jerome Harmon, Stargate and John McClain.

Reid explained "Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honoured to present this music to the world."

Xscape is scheduled for release on the 13th of May and will also be available in a deluxe version featuring all vocals in their original form. Eager fans can pre-order the album on iTunes from today.

The posthumous album will mark the first original material to be released since Jackson's death in June 25, 2009. The cause of death was deemed to be cardiac arrest after his doctor Conrad Murray was cleared of any wrongdoing.
