Morrissey celebrates 50th birthday with hometown gig

Morrissey turned 50 over the weekend and celebrated his half century with a hometown show at the Manchester Apollo. The Urmston born legend was given a standing ovation by the adoring crowd before saying "50 gruesome years" and launching into 'This Charming Man'.

The set featured a blend of hits from Moz's solo career as well as classic Smiths songs. Despite being famous for his glum behaviour, Morrisey was in a jovial mood cracking jokes and shaking hands with audience members.

Moz's band even treated the singer to an impromptu version of Happy Birthday joined by a willing chorus from the capacity crowd. The singer responded: "I'm not 50, I'm forty ten". Check out some fan footage of the gig below.
