Morrissey Compares the Queen’s rule to Colonel Gadaffi’s

Famed English miserabilist Morrissey has not been left in a haze of patriotism after the Royal Wedding – rather the opposite. Writing for Dublin based music magazine hotpress the singer has penned a vitriolic article entitled‘The Very Existence of the Queen Is Against Any Notion of Democracy'.

The anti-royalist rant may not come as a big surprise coming from a singer who once released an album called ‘The Queen is Dead’ but Morrissey’s attack, timed to coincide exactly with the Queen’s visit to Ireland, is a call to arms to Irish people. He reminds inhabitants of the emerald Isle that ‘The Queen has the power to give back the six counties to the Irish people, allowing Ireland to be a nation once again.’ He goes on to state ‘the fact that she has not done so is Fascism in full flow.’

Whilst readers are debating the validity of the singer’s claim that the Queen’s rule is indistinguishable from that of dictators’ in the Middle East, the famously contrary singer also made the less controversial observation: ‘The full meaning of the Monarchy is, like the Queen herself, a complete mystery to most people. It is protected from any investigations by ridiculous stories of trivia and wedding dresses and on-again-off-again soap-drama romances.’ Fair point, Mozza.
