Musicians back 2018 World Cup bid

It’s coming home, it's coming home, it’s coming, football could well be coming home. If England don’t return from South Africa with the famous golden statue this year then a serious chance for them to really bring football home will be if they win the bid to host the tournament in 2018.

Official bids from England, Russia, Australia and Spain have been handed in to FIFA and will be decided in December. But to keep up the momentum for one final push, a series of musicians have now backed our bid. The support is part of a video campaign called ‘I’m In’ from Umbro and features Noel Gallagher, Fatboy Slim and Clint Boon from the Inspiral Carpets.

‘I think it's a travesty that in the whole history of that competition we've only had it once. It would bring the country together and the final will be just round the corner from my house!’ was Noel’s witty but true response as to why England should host.

With the Summer Olympics in London in 2012, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and the Rugby World Cup in England in 2015 already confirmed England need to host the football World Cup in 2018 if only to complete the full set. It’s going to be one hell of a decade for sport if you’re British, that’s for sure.
