While most bands these days take 3 years to release an album, then follow it up with 2 years of touring, then take 2 years off, and that’s before they even contemplate writing a new tune, Damon Albarn has been nothing but prolific.

Already a household name thanks to his time with Blur, Albarn has successfully created the planet’s best loved animated band with Gorillaz, as well as writing, producing and performing an opera about monkeys. Now, he’s back and this time it’s another opera, one influenced by the medieval music and the life of 16th century scientist John Dee.

Doctor Dee’ the opera debuts at the Manchester Palace Theatre on July 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th and to get the PR ball rolling, Damon and friend’s performed a track from it on The Andrew Marr Show on the BBC at the weekend. Watch his performance below...
