Nicki Minaj talks Twitter and Madonna

A voice in her head told her to delete her Twitter account, rapper Nicki Minaj has revealed. She closed down her account with a succinct “Good F***ing Bye” after some followers had posted snippets of her album online.

Speaking to Graham Norton, Minaj didn’t specify exactly what the voice said but it was probably something along the lines of "Twitter has served its purpose as a handy promotional tool but now it’s more trouble than it’s worth". It must have been hard reading all the negative comments criticising Minaj for getting too mainstream.

She told Norton that it was a wrench to leave. "I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me," she said. She may also have been miffed that Lady Gaga has 20 million followers. The quirky singer with the outrageous hairstyles and the dubious fashion sense does seem to get irate when compared to Gaga.

Norton didn’t dwell too long on anything remotely substantial, heading straight for the trivial and sensational, asking Minaj about a recent birthday kiss from Madonna. "You can't really call it making out," Minaj said. "She kissed me but I didn't kiss her. I wasn't expecting it and was shocked like everyone else. I was shaking and thinking, 'Is this really happening and why is she doing this?' It was the strangest thing, except she had very soft lips. . ."

Minaj embarks on a UK tour to promote her new album this summer, beginning with two shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on June 24 and 25.
