Pixies hit miner chord

The world has truly been affected by the courageous rescue of the 33 trapped miners in Chile and there really was only one place to be to celebrate. That place was in the nation’s capital Santiago where Pixies played a very special celebratory gig.

Pxies’ tour just so happened to stop off in Chile on the day the final miner broke free so the Boston band paid tribute to them by playing their longest ever set. Which is even more impressive if you consider they are the masters of the sub-3-minute punk song. The gig took place at the Teatro La Cúpula in Santiago and they played 33 songs, one song for each of the 33 underground heroes.

A statement from leadman Frank Black said, ‘We were so moved by this story. By how many lives had been affected by this and how the Chilean people banded together to support what can only be described as a miracle. We wanted to do something to show how affected we were by this. So we played a special set at tonight's show, 33 songs for the 33 miners, the longest set we've ever played as a band.’

As some wisecracker on Twitter wrote....alright miners, back to work.
