Pop duo booted off flight for lesbian kiss
Just when you think prejudice and inequality are on their way out of fashion, something grim happens to remind you that some people just don't like the gays very much. For whatever reason, be it religious conviction or flat out personal homophobia. So it shouldn't really come as any surprise that Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey of Uh Huh Her was chucked off a plane after sharing a kiss. Just as well that the plane wasn't airborne, eh?
The electro-pop duo, who are also in a relationship, were booted off the Southwest Airlines flight in the USA and told that they were on a 'family airline', and that their affection they showed was 'excessive'. Now, usually lesbians get a free pass, what with it being more acceptable to heterosexual males, but this time they didn't, even though they said it was only a peck on the cheek.
'We want to make it clear we were not making out or creating any kind of spectacle of ourselves, it was one modest kiss,' said the duo. 'We are responsible adult women who walk through the world with dignity. We were simply being affectionate like any normal couple. No matter how quietly homophobia is whispered, it doesn't make it any less loud. You can't whisper hate. We ask this airline to teach their employees to not discriminate against any couple, ever, regardless of their own beliefs.'
