Professor Green slams journalist

Of all the things to blame the London riots on, the most idiotic must be rap music. You look at the areas in which the vast majority of these looter/rioters/petty criminals live, and you see rubbish housing, poor education, hardly any jobs (there are 54 applications for every job advertised in Tottenham, for example), police harrassment and a general feeling of listlessness and boredom. Hardly surprising that these kids quite enjoyed smashing everything up, really, as appalling as it may sound. It's probably the most fun they've had in ages.

However Daily Mirror hack Paul Routledge decided that is was all the fault of rap music, or grime, which has poisoned the minds of today's kids. He wrote: 'I blame the pernicious culture of hatred around rap music, which glorifies violence and loathing of authority (especially the police but including parents), exalts trashy materialism and raves about drugs. In the end only a change of culture, and the way these kids see the world about them, will work. I would ban the broadcasting of poisonous rap, and urge - require, even - schools to teach that the world is a much better place without pointless rage.' For rapper – and all-round top man – Professor Green, it was all a bit much, and he laid into the clueless scribbler

'Paul Routledge is an absolute moron,' he wrote on Twitter. 'An absolute f**king moron. Yea ban rap music, silence our voices even more. Ignorant pr*ck (sic).

'Surely this isn't about shifting the blame, but accepting responsibility? Neither my music or that of my peers is to blame for society and its faults. we didn't create the tiers. If you're all so smart how is it you're confusing understanding with justification? I've said from the start there's no justifying it.'
