Rolling Stoned

As the famous Robin Williams idiom goes, ‘If you remember the 60s, you weren’t there’, a humourous nod to the hedonistic days of the counterculture, the love-ins and specifically the amount of drugs the youth used to freely consume. The Rolling Stones were at the forefront of that movement so it’s to no surprise to anyone that they too used to dabble in their fair share of illegal narcotics.

In an interview with Absolute Radio their gangly talisman Mick Jagger said his band wrote most of their songs from 60’s & 70’s whilst on drugs and if you don’t believe him then have a listen to their seminal 1972 album Exile On Main Street; ‘that was a period of time when everyone took loads of drugs, it was very fashionable, but I mean, we did a lot of hard work as well, so it was a bit of a party atmosphere, loads of visitors, you know, there was a lot of drugs floating around’.

Adding; ‘but not everyone was completely out of it all the time and we did a lot of good tracks, you know’.

Jagger is currently doing the interview rounds to plug their reissue of Exile On Main Street, featuring previously unreleased track Plundered My Soul.
