Ron Asheton from The Stooges dies aged 60

Ron Asheton, guitarist of the legendary punk band The Stooges, was found dead in his home in Ann Arbor on the 6 of January. He was 60.

The guitarist was an original member of The Stooges which he founded in the late 60s along with his brother Scott and legendary vocalist Iggy Pop.

The band broke up in 1974 having released three ground breaking albums featuring Asheton's distinctive guitar style. The Stooges got back together in 2003 and, unlike many other reunion tours, they still cut the mustard.

While the word legendary is bandied too often these days, Asheton was responsible for riffs such as "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "TV Eye" , often imitated, but never matched. He will be sadly missed.
