Seedy 3D

A saucy film billed the world’s first ever 3-D sex film is proving a box office smash – outselling even Avatar on its opening day.

The hotly anticipated 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy reportedly opened to packed cinemas across Hong Kong, and took £219,852 on its first day - beating the previous record for Hong Kong set the 2009 film Avatar, which grossed £207,638 on its first day.

Expect full nudity and even some lovemaking scenes from the £1.9million Cantonese-language film.

Set in the Ming dynasty, the film is a remake of a 1991 Hing Kong movie of the same name. It tells the story of a sexually frustrated scholar who tries to win back the love of his ex-wife.

Producer Stephen Shiu told The Sun: ‘We met people's expectations. People have always thought that you need 3-D technology for this kind of content. So people were very curious.’

The original 1991 movie still ranks as the highest grossing Hong Kong adult film ever made.
