Shaun Ryder to release version of Pogues Christmas classic
Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder has agreed to record a new version of The Pogues' classic Christmas song Fairytale Of New York. The twist is that the duet will be sung with the reality TV star who kept him from winning I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
The former hellraiser turned family man recently spent the best part of three weeks living in the Australian jungle with other celebs, including the Olympic gold medalist Linford Christie and ex-Bond girl Britt Ekland as they battled it out to be crowned king or queen of the jungle on the reality show.
Shaun was voted runner-up earlier this month, after being pipped by the former X Factor finalist Stacey Solomon.
But the rock and roller proved there were no hard feelings by announcing the pair will have a go at Shane McGowan and Kirsty MacColl's festive favourite together.
He tells the Daily Express, ‘We're thinking Fairytale Of New York. We probably shouldn't because the original is so good. But you can't help meddling.’
And if you’ve already sold out by going on a reality TV show, why not go the whole hog and release a rubbish version of someone else’s song just because there’s money in it?
