Songwriters of the year are...

If you go to the ASCAP website, there’s an intro paragraph on Coldplay that reads ‘Coldplay have been a band since January 16th 1998, when four young university friends – Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin – lost a demo tape competition on XFM in London’. Well, it’s funny what 12 years can do, because they are now unarguably one of the biggest bands on planet Earth and last night they bagged even more awards to reiterate that.

The annual ASCAP Awards (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) took place in that there London last night and the Coldplay boys picked up top accolade Song Of The Year for their monster hit ‘Viva La Vida’. The song was the bands first dual number one in the UK and US and is taken from their 11m-selling fourth album ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’.
