Springsteen confirms summer shows

Bruce Springsteen has confirmed UK live dates for summer 2012. The Boss, as we are contractually obliged to call the mature rocker, will play at the Hard Rock Calling festival and at the Isle of Wight festival, with the E Street Band.

Springsteen, who may or may not find the Isle of Wight similar to the New Jersey shoreline, headlines the closing night of the island’s festival on June 24. His Hard Rock calling appearance at Hyde Park is on Saturday July 14. Springsteen played the London festival in 2009 on his last tour, a show that was recorded and released on DVD.

For Bruce fanatics outside the south, shows are already scheduled at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on June 21 and Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on June 22. Hardcore fans can expect these sets to be longer than the festival appearances. Further European dates will be confirmed later, but it is not clear whether these will include any additional UK shows.

Springsteen is currently in the studio completing work on a new album, as yet untitled. It is due for release in early 2012. It will be his 18th studio album in nearly 40 years as a recording artist.

Springsteen turned 62 this year. There’s only one older Bruce still in showbusiness. Springsteen may not have the catchphrases of Mr Forsyth, but he can still put on a 3-hour show, and tickets will sell out quickly for the UK dates. Isle of Wight tickets are on sale from November 25 and Hard Rock Calling tickets go on sale on December 3.
