’Stigma’ attached to being a musician

Justin Timberlake has talked of the ’stigma’ attached to being a musician.

The Sexy Back writer told Interview magazine of the difficulties he’s faced after taking a hiatus from music to concentrate on acting, saying that it’s tough to convince folks that he’s ’not an asshole.’

’What's been more of a battle for me throughout the process of moving into acting is that I feel like I have to keep reassuring people that I'm not an asshole,’ he said. ‘There is a stigma that comes from being on stage and being a musician.’

However, like the honest-to-goodness postitive thinker that he is, JT insists that he takes the negativity of criticism as part and parcel of being an artist.

’Whatever you do as a musician, no matter how good it is, somebody somewhere is going to sh*t on it. You put your heart on your sleeve, and what will happen will happen,’ he added.

‘But it's like that for any artist. You do a painting, you take a photograph, it's the same. That's how artistry works.’
