The Butler did it

Arcade Fire admitted they were shocked to have pipped the competition in the Best Album category at last night’s Grammy Awards. But, with a lead singer called ‘Win’ maybe they shouldn’t have been so surprised.

The Canadian group were the surprise choice in the best album category, fending off light-weight though significant competition from Eminem's 'Recovery' album, 'Need You Now' by Lady Antebellum, 'The Fame Monster' by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream'.

After regaining the ability to articulate speech, frontman Win Butler said: ‘What the hell?’

He then laconically added: ‘We're going to go play another song, 'cause we like music,’ before an unscheduled performance of 'Ready To Start'.

Winner Win then introduced the rest of the band to the press as ‘The graduating class of Montreal, Canada.’

He continued: ‘Music has really changed each of our lives. So when we make a record, we really put all of our soul into it and we work so hard. So to be recognised for that, in the age of the iPod or the age of the single or whatever it is. We still really care about records, so it means a lot to us.’
