The Kids are Alright

Taking Will Smith and Master P’s lead by example, Outkast’s Big Boi has given his 16-year old daughter Jordan Patton a record label for her ‘Sweet Sixteen’ birthday.

The nmereports that the father-daughter run record label will be called Purple Kids and will focus on pre-teen artists aimed at pre-teen audiences. The venture is set to launch in the coming weeks and will feature a host of young new talent including the 12-year-old YouTube sensation Gabbie Rae.

Speaking to Billboard, Big Boi explained: ‘My daughter just turned 16 years old, and you can see it on MTV's [My Super Sweet Sixteen], where they get cars, and things that depreciate and just don't mean nothing. I wanted to give my child something that she can grow and build and nurture. So I gave her her own label.’

Meanwhile everything is looking good for the 36-year old rapper’s own career. He revealed: ’I had a conversation with [Island Def Jam record label chief] Barry Weiss, and he was like, 'Hey Big, great album,' and he's ready for the next album,’ he said. ‘And he wants it ASAP. So, you know, everything's good.’ Looks like he’s going to be a busy Boi.
