The Saturdays light up Oxford Street

Believe it or not, it's only 52 days to Christmas! And London has officially started the countdown by turning on the festive lights of Oxford Street.

This year, girl group The Saturdays had the honour of flicking the switch. However, the normally five piece group appeared as a foursome - minus Frankie Sandford.

Frankie was admitted to a clinic earlier this month for undisclosed reasons, but a spokesperson said that it had nothing to do with drugs, alcohol or cosmetic surgery.

Una Healy, Rochelle Wiseman, Mollie King and Vanessa White braved the cold and shed their winter woolies for a performance of My Heart Takes Over.

Una showed signs of a small baby bump (she is expecting her first child with rugby star Ben Foden) as they pushed the giant plunger to light up 210,000 carbon-neutral LED bulbs.

That morning she tweeted: "So excited to be turning on the Oxford Street Christmas Lights with @tobyanstis later on today, such an honour. X"

The Saturdays are following in the footsteps of their heroes: fifteen years ago, it was the Spice Girls who were turning on the lights of Oxford Street.
