The Smiths to release remastered albums

If the reactions on Facebook and Twitter are anything to go by, many The Smiths fans are profoundly irritated with Morrissey's comments about the massacre in Norway, which he claimed was nothing compared to what happens to animals in McDonald’s and KFC every day. A more crass and idiotic pseudo-intellectual you'd be hard pressed to find, but that's vegetarians for you, eh?

Anyway, there is some good news regarding The Smiths that should cheer up disappointed fans, and as usual it comes from Johnny Marr: the band's full back catalogue is going to be released in remastered form, with Marr himself supervising the process. Their eight studio albums and 1988's live album Rank, will be released on CD and 12” vinyl. As well as that there will be 3,000 super-deluxe versions available, which will include all the albums in both formats, rare artwork, a DVD of their music videos, 25 7" singles, eight high-quality 12" prints of the album sleeves and a large poster.

'I'm very happy that the remastered versions of The Smiths albums are finally coming out,' Marr said. 'I wanted to get them sounding right and remove any processing so that they now sound as they did when they were originally made. I'm pleased with the results.'
