Thom Yorke and his all-star band make live debut

Thom Yorke debuted new material on Friday night in LA accompanied by his all-star backing band. The Radiohead singer played several new songs with his new band which features Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, REM collaborator Joey Waronker, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and legendary producer Nigel Godrich.

Tickets for the 'secret' gig at the Echoplex venue sold out within minutes with some fans reported to have paid up to $3000 online to witness the performance. Celebrity punters included Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, actress Ellen Page as well as star producer Rick Rubin.

Yorke and his new cohorts played a high energy 50-minute punctuated by songs from his 2006 solo offering 'The Eraser' before showcasing a number of new songs during the encore. Yorke appeared in great form bopping around the stage and enjoying some lighthearted banter with the crowd.
